Yoga has given me the ultimate gift – the ability to wake up everyday feeling good about what I do for a living.
Since I began practicing in 2003, I’ve had the opportunity to study with instructors throughout Canada and the world. I completed Downward Dog Yoga Centre’s renowned teacher training program in 2008, and since then have been inspired by countless students looking for their own answer to what makes yoga so different and unique from anything else. I am proud to share yoga with others in various environments, including weekly classes at Downward Dog and 889 Yonge Yoga + Wellness Spa. When the work week includes teaching yoga to University Health Network hospital employees, customized sessions for members of the Hollywood elite, as well as specialized classes for fan-favourites Toronto FC, it’s hard not to love my job.
Off the mat, my alter-ego operates Writeability, a professional writing service dedicated to putting “what you meant to say” on paper. After honing my writing skills as a graduate student studying Social Anthropology, I became addicted to the power of the written word and the satisfaction that comes from articulating an idea as best I know how.
Yoga allows me to celebrate the awesomeness that is the human body and all of its capabilities. Writing, meanwhile, challenges my mind and forces me to stay on top of what it means to communicate effectively in the digital age. Both yoga and writing reflect what I do well, and yet bring me face to face with challenge on a regular basis. The struggles I’ve encountered in my practice, along with the trials that come from translating ideas into words have taught me that no matter how much I love what I do, there will always be days when none of it feels easy.
So if you’re interested in learning more about yoga from someone who can tell you – as eloquently as possible – what the difference is between those upward dogs and downward dogs, come pay me a visit in class or send me an email if a private session sounds more your speed. Until then, I’ll look forward to hearing about what makes you tick…
